Not For Rent! Film Release Will Be Hosted By Weber State University

NOT FOR RENT!, Metamora Films latest documentary film is being released and screened at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.   The feature length documentary film,  looks at rental housing barriers ex-felons face as they attempt to rebuild their lives in our communities.  With over 95% of the American prison population being released at some point in the future, millions of ex-inmates struggle with ‘red tape’ and strict criminal history rental requirements property managers and landlords enforce. In this unique and powerful film, you’ll meet several people who’ve been personally affected by housing restrictions due to felony convictions.

 The film screening is scheduled for April 5th, 2017 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Wildcat Theater.  The event is FREE and open to the public including Weber State students who will receive credit for attending the event. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Monica Williams, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Weber State, University, the film release is part of the Engaged Learning Series, which is a university-wide series of events designed to engage students, faculty, staff, and community in discussion, debate, dialogue, learning, and action around an issue of public concern. For 2017, the series aims to raise awareness, improve personal behavior, and increase public engagement around the issue of “privilege.”  In addition to the screening of NOT FOR RENT!, there will be guest speakers, a Q & A with film’s director, Matt Duhamel, and a social hour with free lunch catered by Sodexho.


Metamora Films is also encouraging donations to support the Utah Prisoner Advocate Network (UPAN).  Although we won’t be able to except actual donations at the screening (due to be on college property)  UPAN’s President and Treasurer Molly Prince, who appears in film discussing how she helped a former inmate get back on his feet, will have a vendor table set-up with information on the organization and how donations can be made. Metamora Films continues to incorporate their film releases with charitable causes.  During the What Makes Me Tic? and The Forgiveness Journey film releases, Metamora Films helped raise money for the Tourette Association of America and The Forgiveness Project, a U.K. based charity that uses real stories of victims and perpetrators of crime and violence to help people explore ideas around forgiveness and alternatives to revenge.



 Director, Matt Duhamel discusses on the film’s website why he decided to make the film. He says, “The documentary film, NOT FOR RENT! came about from one of those stressful phone calls to a landlord; she was renting a small house in Ogden, Utah.  She told me that even if she wanted to rent the house to me she wouldn’t be able to due her being a member of the Good Landlord Program (GLP).”  You can read the full director’s comments on the film’s official website along with the entire Electronic Press Kit, film trailer, cast & crew information, and how to get FREE tickets to the film release.

Sex Offenders Not Worthy of Being Saved from Hurricane Irma

Commentary about Polk County, Florida banning Registered Sex Offenders from Storm Shelters: I was so bothered by this that I had to write a blog concerning Polk County, Florida and their denial of allowing Registered Sex Offenders/Predators into their storm shelters during Hurricane Irma’s landfall (currently predicated to reach Southern Florida this Sunday).
